Thirty five designers, five shows a day, six emerging names from Chennai, four labels from abroad, a sprinkling of stars and non-stop excitement...

The Gitanjali Lifestyle Chennai International Fashion Week that concluded recently saw a host of big names showcase their clothes as a run-up to the grand finale on July 11. Top designers Neeta Lulla, Krishna Mehta and finally, Satya Paul (the label celebrates its 25th year) were the highlights of the shows on the concluding day.

Saturday night fashion fever saw Kollywood stars Radhika and Sharath Kumar, Simbu, Sada, Sneha, ‘Jeyam' Ravi, Padmapriya et al walk the ramp for designer Archana Kochhar for Videocon Galatta All Stars Show.

According to Gaurav Sharma, CEO, Storm Fashion Company that produced the fashion week, “Chennai is emerging as a major destination for fashion in India with several iconic brands setting shop here. As high street fashion comes of age in Chennai, the city is being watched with great interest by big players in the segment.”

Girish Ramdas, president, Galatta.Com and an associate of Storm Fashion Company observed that support from a large expatriate community and a globally-oriented industry helped put the city on the national fashion map. “An equally vibrant entertainment industry provides additional impetus to the fashion community,” he added.

As one season closes, talks are already on with a slew of designers for Edition Three of the Chennai International Fashion Week in December.
