Considering it has been a year of many memorable fashion moments, and looking at so much more happening as we go into the New Year, it is always great to spot trends that can be worn in everyday life. Here are my picks of styles that will take you from the office to the red-carpet to the club and everywhere in between. So, as we gear up for a new year and a new season, here are some interesting trends that might last till the end of 2016.

SOLID STRIPES

As one of the most iconic prints of all time, stripes have an unmistakable allure, which has long been favoured by many of the world’s most stylish. This trend is all about colouring between the lines. Bold, layered shades lend even more interest to this graphic tale. Solid stripes in structured dresses, swirly jumpsuits with patches of solid colours and hints of bling will make you look like a million bucks. Whether you stick to classic black and white, monochrome or go bold and wear solid stripes in all colours, just remember to pull off whatever look you opt for with a smile. These solid stripe patterns are everywhere — from shirts, blouses and dresses to shoes and bags.

PAJAMA FUN

Now all fashionistas may wear their elevated pjs on the streets with pride. Cotton poplins, floral satins or star-spangled silks are preferred, and now designers are throwing-in two-piece pajama sets to make for a comfortable wardrobe. The pajama trend, if it is all a dream, is certainly a recurring one. Wearing pajamas as clothes isn’t as much about invoking the whole I-woke-up-like-this ethos as much as it makes the wearer the Alice of her own Wonderland, constantly looking at the world around her in a new way, and wondering all the time — Am I still dreaming?

Try the trend from head-to-toe with sateen separates by Olivia Von Halle or ease into the pajama party by pairing a lingerie-inspired top by Dolce and Gabbana with simple denim. Either way, finish with simple heels and an eye-catching clutch for a seriously chic ensemble. Beauty sleep has never looked this good.

SPANISH RUFFLES

Oh, the frill of it all. The new ruffles fashion trend is standing out due to the delicacy of the lines and glamorous sophisticated look. A variety of vaporous fabrics such as tulle and organza among others, have been used to create gorgeous ruffled designs. Ruffles look fabulous and can be beautifully incorporated into a gorgeous dress, skirt or blouse designs as they are meant to upgrade the look. It is definitely attention grabbing. This surely is a trend that is catching up; you can count on ruffles to add just the right amount of romance to your wardrobe. The historically childlike detail has gotten a high-fashion makeover during the last couple of seasons with top designers like Miu Miu, Marni, Marc Jacobs, Simone Rocha and more showcasing pieces with exaggerated ruffles, voluminous frills, and structured flounce. As they are eye catching, ruffles are usually an option for women who are not afraid of standing out in the crowd.

IN SEQUINS

All that glitters isn’t necessarily gold. Sequins are back in a big way, and it’s not all bad. Sharp, edgy, glamorous, glitzy…these power concepts are starting to edge out the soft, gentle, natural, green. Our fashion-loving hearts want the former and there’s nothing for it but to go with the flow. The sparkle of choice for spring is unabashedly blingy palettes crafted to light up the night. Sequins aren’t just for strictly-style ball gowns these days: the way to wear them in 2016 is with a hefty scoop of insouciance, they create a swirly pattern, so every time you move in a stunning short sleeve dress, the light will gleam off it, just like having your own spotlight. Anything with sequins is a wardrobe essential for all party animals.

THE NEW ROMANTICS

Leave your boyfriend jeans and shirts behind in 2015. Feathers, ruffles, pastels, cream, chiffon and sheer details add up to the sort of earnestly pretty frocks that make even the most cynical fashion girl swoon. The Eighties trend isn’t just about slightly garish finishes; there’s a defined silhouette too, expect structured shoulders and frills aplenty. This season, the girly detail varies from subtle fluted hemlines to over-sized power frills. Feathers also bring a great texture and strong, natural colouring to any outfit. At the moment, feather headbands are in: they are fun and playful and work really well with this winter’s popular folk trend. Worn best with naturally loose and effortless hair a feather headband will instantly refresh any winter ensemble.

PETAL PUSHERS

This trend is truly timeless… Floral printed fabric is a classic, but these high-fashion gurus are layering blooms on blooms on blooms. We have seen pastel colours with pretty flowers on them, also vibrant and clashing hues of floral patterns that somehow seem to go well together. Floral prints are all about embracing Nature itself and surrendering yourself to sunny days. The floral story for spring rings in somewhere between demure, ultra-feminine and even ironic. Think ladylike frocks with English garden patterns and Victorian ruffles, sheer black floral and edgy grunge prints. While crisp whites and bright blocks will be filtering through in the coming months, plenty of designers have included black this season — teaming well with even the brightest floral print and working for daytime occasions and after-five events.
