Vanastree, the Sirsi-based women’s collective, is organising its Monsoon Malnad Mela over the weekend in Bangalore. The Mela will be held in collaboration with Vriksh and Sara Organic. A range of monsoon seeds will be available along with a selection of garden, field, and forest produce. In addition, a limited number of Malnad tubers like colocasia (kesu), Elephant’s Foot yam, and sweet potato will be available. Malnad master gardeners will be at the Mela to tell you how to plant and care for them. If you have any unusual tubers, please bring them along to show. They can also talk about growing and multiplying tubers to pass on to others.

Malnad foods made on the spot will include the signature kashaya, kokam soup, masala jackfruit papad, and dosai (thellevu) with coconut chutney and jaggery with ghee. On July 26 and 27 the Mela will be on at Vriksh – The Organic Store at 88, 3 main, Vyalikaval. On July 28 the Mela will be on at Sara Organic, Sahakar Nagar Main Road (opposite Namdhari). On all days it will be on from 10.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Contact: Manjula 98450-33735/ Panduranga 98806-30428 or email vriksh.organic@gmail.com/ saraorganic@gmail.com
