The Flugtug adrenaline rush

For the first time ever, here comes a chance for everyone to give a shot at flying. Red Bull brings to India its first Flugtag event. Pronounced ‘Floog Taag’ and meaning ‘flying day’ in German, the event is one of the world’s wildest homemade, human-powered flying craft competition and it makes its debut in India right here in Bangalore.

Gone are the days when only heroes in films would fly hundreds of feet in the air. Now you can be a superhero too and have as much fun and more.

Come September 28, at Sankey Tank, Bangaloreans will take off using handmade flying machines that battle gravity to see who soars the furthest without getting wet.

The homemade flying contraptions will be powered by muscle, chants and the zeal of a true aviator.

A four-member team designs, builds and launches their Flugtag craft off a 22-foot high flight deck, in the hope of soaring into the distance, with only clear blue water to catch their inevitable fall.

A total of 40 such teams have being selected for Red Bull Flugtag - India. Since the first Red Bull Flugtag in 1992 in Vienna, Austria over 100 such events have taken place around the world.Participating teams don’t have to be experts in aeronautics, as Flugtag crafts are judged on three parameters: flight distance, creativity of the build and showmanship.

There will be free entry for spectators. So come watch as chappals, cattle, cartoon characters and even saas-bahus will step into the cockpit of their very own craft and soar high.
