“My eating habits depend on whether I have to lose or gain weight for a movie role. But I try to be fit always,” says Amrita Puri. The actor, who started off with television commercials and then made her Bollywood debut with Aisha , is now back with her next film, Kai Po Che , the film adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s novel, The 3 Mistakes of My Life.
The petite actor, who’s learnt to drive a two-wheeler for the film, says her fitness schedules tend to go awry during work and shootings. “But when I am in Mumbai, I make sure that I eat good and healthy. I also work out in the gym for two hours and do pilates,” she says.
She makes sure to have small meals every two hours. “I eat whole-wheat bread and brown rice. I avoid butter or cheese, and I consume very little oil, may be sometimes olive oil. I have skimmed milk. In the morning I drink warm water with honey and lemon,” Amrita lists. “And I never forget my vitamins.”
Her co-actors in Kai Po Che — the title translates into a triumphant cry in Gujarati — include Raj Kumar Yadav of Ragini MMS fame, and TV actors Sushant Singh Rajput and Amir Sadd. The film is being directed by Abhishek Kapoor, who’s well known for directing the hit Rock On!!
Talking about her role in Koi Po Che , Amrita says, “I play a character called Vidya. She is a young girl, full of life. She knows what she wants in life and gets it. She is naughty and stubborn, too. I play Sushant’s sister and the love interest of Raj. It is fun to be enacting these two characters; it is like two flavours.”
Amrita is confident that she’ll hold her own despite the three male leads. “I think it does not depend on the length of your role; it all depends on the quality of the role played. I think people should really come out of this misconception that if a role is short it’s not important.”
Amrita, who has also acted in the film Blood Money , says things are fine once one has a foot through the door. “It is tough for a newcomer to enter Bollywood. But once you get in, all depends on your luck and talent. If you are talented, you will surely be offered movies,” she says.
