Batting for ‘CSK’

This Friday, ‘CSK’ will come to life. Not the cricket team that plays the IPL, but a Tamil film by that title.

And, Narayan is one of its key players. “This is a thriller that happens inside a mall,” reveals the actor. “We wanted hype around the film, which is why we went in for such a title. But at the same time, there’s also a link to the story – the first letter of the three main characters are C, S and K,” he says.

He plays Sanjay, a corporate executive with shades of grey, in this “situational thriller” directed by Sathiyamoorthy and starring Sharan, Vimal and Jai Quehaeni in main roles. “As I also work in a mall in real life, I could relate to it easily,” he laughs, “ CSK will have three different storylines and five main characters. Where these characters meet and what happens afterwards form the crux of the plot.”

Narayan has been dreaming movies since childhood. His grandmother used to have a huge collection of black-and-white movies which he cherished. “I’m a movie buff basically… thanks to my grandmother, I’ve watched several films from the black-and-white era and admired the actors then.”

But, his transition from being a movie fan to an actor happened primarily because of his brother who played a role in Alaipayuthe. “Interestingly, his name is also Madhavan,” he smiles, “When I saw him on the big screen, I was very excited. That kindled the spark.”

His association with a leading multiplex chain, at that time, gave him an inside glimpse into how tinseltown worked.

“I happened to meet Prakash Raj and Radha Mohan, and was selected for Inidhu Inidhu, the Tamil remake of Happy Days.” Subsequent roles in films like Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, Samar and Endrendrum Punnagai made him a known face in Kollywood circles.

Currently, Narayan has three films up his sleeve – Bhoologam with Jayam Ravi, director Radha Mohan’s Uppu Karuvadu and Thiranthidu Seese. “The latter is a comic thriller, directed by Nimesh Varshan, who has assisted director Shankar. I’m paired opposite Dhansika,” he says.
