App-solutely: Waking up to The Rock

Dwayne Johnson’s Rock Clock incidentally, has no Snooze button. Because, you know, The Rock doesn’t need one.

Waking up early has never been this fun! When you have Dwayne Johnson go, ‘Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep, beep. I can do this ALL day! Beep, Beep, Beep,” why will it not? In reality, it’s not all that fun. With all the excitement of a The Rock fan, I downloaded the app when it launched. Me being me, I very conveniently forgot about it too. Until last week that is, when I finally began using the app to at least see if it could do what a hundred other apps could not – get me out of bed early.

Why am I trying to be an early riser? Well, look at it this way – most successful people are early risers; they get a lot more done in a day and the success doesn’t hurt right!

Right now, I’d like to succeed at losing a few pounds (well actually more than just a few). The only way I can get that done – wake up early like the Rock, lace up those sneakers and go walk those few grudging miles, before I build it up to a jog and then hopefully a run. Sigh!

Dwayne Johnson’s Rock Clock incidentally, has no Snooze button. Because, you know, The Rock doesn’t need one. More sigh – snooze is my favourite feature in every alarm app.

So with a lot of ifs and buts I forced myself to set an alarm for 5 a.m. on day one. Turns out I enjoyed waking up to the tune of The Rock’s Beep Beep Beep Beep… Day two however, didn’t seem to be all that fun when he insistently blared into my ears with a cheery ‘Let’s do this!’ How does one muster so much enthusiasm with just four hours of sleep? And let’s face it; I’m a rather grouchy morning person. But determined to keep at it, I tried using the app on day three as well. This time, with a more pleasant ‘Good Morning Sunshine’ sung in Dwayne’s deep voice.

Incidentally, the app has an interesting Rock Time feature – an auto alarm clock that is synced to The Rock’s alarm and rings as early as 4.15 a.m. on certain days and then again at 3.45 a.m. on some. The Rock, apparently, is an extremely early riser! I must admit, I haven’t dared to test this feature yet. Let’s master waking up at 5 a.m. first.

No matter how much I whine about it, the app certainly seems to be doing its job – I do however, insist on keeping it turned off on the weekends.

On the flipside, the app needs to be running all night for it to function well. The one night when I forgot to leave it on, I got to sleep in till my usual 7 a.m. because the alarm didn’t ring. For the enthusiasts, Dwayne also has motivational videos every other day that play after the alarm in the morning.

Will I continue using it? Maybe if I get to hear Dwayne croon to me every morning instead of the annoying Beep Beep.
