It's the wedding season all over again, and it is time to find a groom the timeless swayamvar way. Imagine TV started the trend a couple of seasons ago with Rakhi Sawant trying to find her mate. That search may not have ended with “And they lived happily ever after”, but it has not dissuaded young Ratan Rajpoot from walking down the same lane. The petite girl who carved out a niche for herself with powerful portrayals in Agle Janam Mohi Bitiya Hi Kijo and Radha ki Betiyan Kuch Kar Dikhaengi will now be seen choosing her groom in Ratan Ka Rishta - Season 3 .
The much-loved bitiya from Patna is both excited and nervous at the prospect of finding her life partner. “Nobody knows it better than I how difficult it is for parents to find a groom for their daughters, as I have four elder sisters for whom my parents searched for grooms. I wanted my parents to be rid of this responsibility. As this is the most important decision of my life, my parents, sisters and friends had a discussion on the issue and only then did I decide to go for the swayamvar . Whatever I am doing is with the consent of my parents and they will be there helping me choose my life partner. In my case, Imagine is going to take this responsibility instead of my parents.”
The Home Science graduate candidly admits that marriage was on her mind since she was a teenager. She says, “When my elder sister got married and she was having a good time with her husband — going out shopping, watching movies and even wearing saris — I wished my brother-in-law would have four brothers and so that we sisters could have married them all.” She goes on to tell, “When girls in my class talked about their plans of becoming doctors and engineers, I simply smiled and thought I only had to marry when I grew up.”
With 40,000 young men having applied for the show, Ratan will not have to wait for those younger brothers of her brother-in-law. The applicants, whose number is supposed to grow further, will be shortlisted to 2,000 and further reduced to 200 keeping in mind the parameters set by Ratan, who will be televised. Finally, the number will be brought down to 16 and, of course, her parents will be helping.
Ratan Rajpoot a.k.a. Laali is looking for someone who is a little taller than her, caring, educated and well-settled. The show (Ratan is not happy calling it a ‘show') will be aired in April or May this year and will be shot in Rajasthan.
