Nowadays restaurant business has changed a lot. The owner hires promoters to run the place. The professional aspect is confined to the owner getting his return on investment with no concern as to how the patrons and guests at the outlet are treated.
However, at Pamphilos which is located at Greater Kailash I N block market it is the other way. The owner himself has built the place from scratch and is available whole day to take care of the guests, offering that warm hospitality and experience for which people look out for when they dine outside. The place has been divided into two levels and is done so artistically that I spent good half an hour observing the art work. Especially the book wall where the bestsellers and old classics have been pasted open looks spectacular.
The menu there is selective and showcases only Pamphilos master dishes which is good. I started with the soup of the day which was a roasted carrot soup served with toasted bread and to my surprise it was perfect. Very few places offer a good flavourful carrot soup. I followed my soup with a platter of some assorted starters. Duo of mustard grilled prawns and chicken olivetti came first and both had unique tastes. Prawns had that robust kick of Dijon mustard which I liked and even the chicken, the finely sliced chicken strip wrapped around the black olive was good. Chicken olivetti with white and black combination looked good too. Maybe if it was made with a strip of thigh portion it would have tasted even better.
The tandoori section was all about variants of kababs. Amritsari fish, Hussaini seekh and chicken Mumtaz. They were all regular. I mean such a beautiful place but food wise it needs much improvement. At least some dishes should stand out and look spectacular too.
Their main course dishes impressed me a lot as each dish had its uniqueness. The Hungarian lamb goulash was really good and the lamb was cooked to perfection. Same was the case with grilled fillet of fish but one dish which was bang on was their chicken in peri peri sauce. I loved the spice level and enjoyed the perfectly marinated chicken breasts.
Pamphilos’s dessert menu is very limited and I skipped it to have a nicely brewed shot of espresso.
