For many who eat out, it’s the experience that counts. But at The Lost Caravan, near the entrance of Church Street, the experience goes beyond and the food takes you on a gastronomical journey – a food trip across space and time. Backed by a retro and travel theme, the gastro-pub offers a smorgasbord of offerings for the palate that promise to make you time travel.

Reflecting the lost in time ambience, The Lost Caravan is a swell ride of a place with time-locked clocks and nostalgic artefacts adorning the walls amidst futuristic murals. Spacious and pleasant, the second floor location offers al fresco balcony dining or roomy seating around the well-lit triangular island bar. To add to the mood, the flavoursome continental, American café food is served with finesse making sure the customer is pampered. The menu also stands out with historic tidbits on the dishes.

Kick off the food excursion with the delicious starters ranging from mouth-watering spicy chicken wings with special mayo or devilled eggs. Veggies can dig into the appetising open mini burgers or Caravan styled cottage cheese that surprises you with Indian flavours and spices. Meat lovers will fall in love with the unbelievably enjoyable spicy pork ribs. You can also choose the salt and pepper squid/prawns, croquettes, crab cakes with horseradish or a Kerala special – the varttiyathu curry. Give the salads and wraps a try and don’t miss out the all-time favourite burger that is amazing with every bite.

The drinks menu boasts an array of spectacular Caravan signatures, mocktails, brews and two specialised hip flasks again taking you on a thirst-quenching journey.

The main course offers a range of delicacies for the meat lover. On top of the list is the original roast lamb marinated with spices and served with veggies and yummy mashed potato. Another all-time favourite is the fish fillet with delicious tangy diced mango salsa. Other choices that are equally filling and flavoursome are seafood paella, chicken chimichangas, beef fillets, and spicy tangy pork – a real meat haven. The veggies aren’t left behind with selections from mac & cheese with a twist, clay pot grilled cottage cheese and spaghetti bolognese and penne alfredo that also have non-veg add-ons. The gastropub also offers airline platters as a three-course meal only during lunch hours in veg, non-veg and seafood tray options.

The high note in the Caravan trail is the desserts and they are nothing short of enduring in their taste. The gypsy churros is tempting just to look at. Digging into the hot and thick chocolate sauce with the fried dough pastry in long sticks won’t leave you disappointed. The New York cheesecake in its comforting classic texture with a hint of crunch and garnished with lemon zest is another sweet kick. The hot fudge chocolate brownie and the all American apple pie are also favourites while the trifle comprising layers of sponge cake, creamy custard and fruits topped up with a layer of lightly whipped fresh cream served in a glass is just perfect to finish the food expedition.
