Before anything else, one must point out the presentation of the food at Red Pearl.

It is so pretty and one can’t help devouring the meal visually even as it is still being served. There is a burst of colour on the plate and even the table arrangements consisting largely of jewel-toned accompaniments have you tapping your feet impatiently for dinner!

But take it slowly. There is plenty to try. Start with the Dimsums – pearly white with just a tantalising glimpse of the stuffings through the translucent covering.

There are some that are made with the unusual lotus flour and those dimsums are brownish in colour. Some of them offer a surprising crunch, which is the water chestnut stuffing, while others have tofu, spinach and other vegetables.

For the non vegetarians the stuffing could be of crab, fish, poultry and more. The dimsums are packed with flavour and texture, yet just perfect for those who like to keep their dinner light. In fact, just one of the many soups on offer along with an assortment of dimsum would be a deliciously healthy dinner. For those who want a heartier meal, there are lobsters, prawns, squid, mud crabs cooked in myriad ways. The chef recommends the Peking Duck. It is obviously the hero of the new menu.

According to P.S. Venugopal of Taj, the chefs have recently returned from refresher sessions at Taj’s flagship hotels in the Metros. That is one of the reasons the menu has been refreshed and reworked – to offer Coimbatore diners a fresh taste.

The new menu is already in place. The monsoons are also set, and what better way to enjoy the experience than over Chinese food.

There are some exotic desserts too – Litchi and Basil Seed Ice cream sounds good.
