As winter has started to make its presence felt on the silicon plateau, nothing beats hot grills and food in the evenings. Polo Club at the Oberoi is organising a grill festival in association with Webber Grills, where you can dig into excellent grills and wines.
We start with excellent lobster and tiger prawn grills. Both dishes have a hint of lemon and are moderately sauced. The prawns are huge and retain their flavour. The grills aid in bringing a slight smoky aftertaste. Another highlight is the tenderloin skewer, with a tangy barbeque rub. Soft and tender, the dish is spicy, with an element of sweet thrown in. Another must try item is the sweet and sour twice-cooked pork belly. It is a dish that has always captivated my imagination, especially after seeing cookery shows where everyone seems to whip it up and enjoy it. One bite and the doors of gastronomic heaven opened. The meat seemed multilayered, with each layer offering something different to the palette. It started off with a hint of sweetness, moved on to a smoky spiciness and also helped provide a melt in the mouth sensation. Barbeque sessions may seem to be an evil ploy against vegetarians, but that turned out to be a myth. The barbeque skewer (vegetarian) was excellent. The mushrooms simply stood out.
The sausage grill, despite being a little hard on the exterior is prepared well. We finish the meal with a portion of chocolate cake filled with molten chocolate and served with vanilla ice cream. It is gooey and tastes superb. The promotion is on till November 28.
