Having a meal atop a skyscraper can actually be a very different experience, all thanks to its setting. It does feel like that at the newly launched Sky Lounge Bar and Grill in The Royal Plaza. Overlooking the expanse of Connaught Place, specially at night, and digging into some select food with friends and family can be a memorable event but only if it’s slightly less cold. On my recent visit to review the place, the extreme weather kept me from enjoying it to the hilt. Even though there was an angeethi next to my table, it didn’t help much and I somehow just wanted to go through the dishes as quickly as possible.

The food on offer is a mix of cuisines served from an open kitchen, which is a challenge for a chef owing to reasons like hygiene and cleanliness.

As expected, there was a soup to start with and the first offering — lemon coriander soup — was just delightful. If only the chef could tone down the flavour of lemon a bit so that the flavour of coriander gets a fillip, the dish would be absolutely flawless.

The subsequent dish — smoked salmon platter — was also done well. The tiny onion rings dipped in vinegar, placed on top of the fish gave it a nice flavour. The Asian chicken salad with a wasabi dressing was a below average preparation. I have never eaten such a dry chicken before. Even the sliced fish in chilli basil and grilled prawns were over-seasoned which just eclipsed the flavours of the dish. This section of the food needs some work as there is scope for improvement.

For the main course, I tried their Indian food and ordered murgh mussalam, mutton biryani, and kandahari naan. Murgh was not a mussalam as it was served in pieces like in any other curry. Green tea crème brulee had a nice aftertaste.
