Blast the myths about the burger, the popular fast food, after relishing the variety at the ongoing Burger fest at Cocoa Tree, the Avenue Regent.
No it's not a mini meal, it is not- on- the- run (though it can be so), it is sit down and it's completely satiating. And age has nothing to do with this Yankee speciality ( Hamburg- Germany- New York history route). The Burger fest will have you turn your stance as it did to some of us.
Some truths about the burger. It is definitely fun food and allows for mindboggling innovations. Chef Benny M.V. will proudly tell you that it is one of the most popular fests that he organises and though youngsters are his main guests there is a growing elderly clientele, which proves the change. Yes, the burger gets egalitarian.
The popularity of this fest, (it's an annual do) has egged the chef to add to his menu and so this time you have the Big Boy Double Decker burger (Rs. 185, inclusive of taxes), where a chicken patty sits atop a beef patty, separated by layers of creamy cheese slices and encased in the big sized, sesame topped bread bun. Wow it's a huge, huge mouth-watering wholesome meal. As it's a fest, is anybody counting calories? No way, diet food is nowhere on the mind.
The seafood burger (Rs.185) has fish, prawn and squid mince in the patty, while the American hamburger is the traditional beef mince, the great original from where springs the umpteen variety that you can savour here.
The regular chicken and fish fillet burgers are there too and chef has thrown in a fusion surprise, the Chicken Pesto burger, where Italian flavour meets the American taste head on.
Veggies can delight in the veg supreme burger (Rs.155). All burgers come along with potato wedges and Cole slaw (lots of it). Each burger platter is as colourful as it can be with ice berg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and pungent slivers of onions all sitting pretty cushioned in creamy mayonnaise. Yum, Yum, Yum….
The fest is on till end of May.
