For the food loving folks, here is a complete new indulgence that is simply yummilicious! It is not the common khana stuff.
We are talking about creamy cakes, crispy cookies, juicy rolls, sugary candies, luscious lattes, jammy danishes and all freshly baked products, the likes of which Madurai didn't taste before.
Right on the Theni Main Road is this cute little overtly pink shop called ‘Puppy's Bakery', where whims can go wild.
Just a sight at the glass case will generate brooks down your mouth. Hardly four months into the business, the place 24x7 overflows with mommies, daddies, grannies and kiddies; all to grab a mega bite of the delicacies on offer.
Says Vichitra Rajasingh, C.E.O, Bell Hotels (P) Ltd, Sivakasi, “Baking is my passion and this outlet is my pet project. I named it after my nick name ‘Puppy''
“Our logo is a girl holding a cake. It is a cartoonized version of me. Our branding is all pink and fun-- bakeries are supposed to exude a feeling of warmth, celebration and happiness, which is why our tag line is rightly ‘creamier side of life”
Once inside, the well-lit sleek ambience engulfs and of course the nutty fruity chocolaty whiff greets. But, take your time to ponder over the platter as the list of items goes long. The extensive menu includes fresh cream and butter cream cakes, puff pastry, pies, tarts and desserts.
“We are the only bakery in the city to provide almost 400 different varieties of international baked products at affordable prices. We constantly experiment new products and designs. We recently made 200 cupcakes with a graduation theme for a graduation party” testifies Vichitra.
Must-eats
The most popular flavours not to be missed are fresh cream ‘chocolate Exotica', ‘chocolate mousse', ‘Black Forest' and ‘Mocha' with finest cocoa and chocolate.
The shop specializes in cup cakes for children. With funky names like ‘pink panther'-- vanilla cupcake with silky smooth strawberry buttercream; ‘funkey monkey'-- chocolate cupcake; ‘the elmo', ‘friendly monster', ‘green alien, ‘flower power' and ‘zippy zebra', an assortment of 25 varieties drive kids crazy.
Irresistible are the delicious donuts but do try out ‘the homer simpson'-- a chocolate donut dedicated to Homer Simpson. If craving for a more distinct flavour, dig into into ‘the fuzzy navel' (strawberry and coconut), ‘strawberry kiss' or ‘pineapple pop'.
Many swear by the shakes, frappes, cappuccino and lattes. Pamper yourself with ‘shake your brownie'-- a chocoalate milk shake blended with dark chocolate brownies or fill in some ‘chocolate oblivion'-- a shot of pure melted dark chocolate. ‘Jelly belly'—vanilla shake with coloured jello proves the right pick for kids.
Cartoon-cakes
One can customize birthday cakes. . Latest cartoon characters like Dora and Ben 10 are famous among kids. An LCD touch-screen installed at the outlet shows all the options in cartoon-cakes.
“Even one's face can be etched on the cake. This has become a fad among people these days” beams Chef Sivakumar, an expert in the craft of crusts and crumbs and a specialist in 3D cakes. “Even politicians go for engraving the leader's face on the cake” he adds, showing a couple of orders he delivered recently.
The highlight of the bakery is their interesting window display that changes every month according to the trend. Unique pieces like a replica of a Yves Saint Laurent handbag, a Chanel shopping bag, Red Jimmy Choo stilletoes , a toy box and themed wedding cakes are kept. Now, the bakery sports a world cup theme with a 7 foot replica of the world cup trophy placed in the centre and a cricket bat and ball made entirely out of sugar.
With so many unique aspects, the bakery is all set to expand to at least another five locations in the city and take Madurai foodies by its creamy charm. The bakery is open from 9.30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
