Ever wanted to survey the streets of Rome, gelato in hand, seated at a little café by the kerb? Smooth and Creamy, a new ice cream studio on Ethiraj Salai, can promise you at least one of those things — gelatos straight from Italy. Using the ‘cold stone’ method of preparing ice creams, Smooth and Creamy gives you the choice of creating your own ice cream.

A single scoop of ice cream starts at Rs. 56 and is called a ‘Go single’. The store offers a wide range of fruity sundaes, including one for kids called Kutty Kreations, where kids are allowed to put two of their favourite flavours together with various garnishes and toppings to create and name new flavours. There are various options for adults to mix and make sundaes as well.

For those who can’t choose, there is also the option of readymade combinations such as ‘Yo Fruity’— served with fruit crush, fresh fruit or a fruit filling; Go Nutz nut-filled chocolate flavours; Fresh & Creamy — fruit flavoured ice creams topped with whipped cream, and Smoothys that are gelato milkshakes in fresh fruity flavours such as blueberry and strawberry.

With ice creams named Sinful Temptress, Caribbean Pirate, Horton’s Wreath and Monkey Bites, the menu itself can keep you wondering. For the chocolate lovers there is the Brittle Rocher. A triple scoop of different kinds of chocolate and fudge, blended to make a chewy, delicious dessert that melts in your mouth. The Royal Split — a fruity confection of cherries, pineapples, strawberry and chocolate is one of those perfect sundaes where neither the ice cream nor the fruit overpower each other. The gelatos are soft, delicious, light and a healthier option than the usual ice creams. Prices range from Rs. 250 to Rs. 300 for two.

Smooth and Creamy is located at Shivalya Building, Ethiraj Salai, Egmore.
