Every time you login to your account online, the excitement soars to make new add-ons in your friend list… but how about boasting a long followers list? Lately, ‘scrapping’, ‘commenting’ and ‘poking’ have become a craze among youngsters and almost a social trend. And to catch up, ‘Twitter’ was in the city to introduce ‘tweeting’ to the online routines of Maduraiites and to make blogging more blobbing.
‘Twitmdu 2010’ organized by ‘Galatta’ events and hosted by ‘Dotcom infoway’ was an eye opener to various benefits of ‘twitter’ apart from demonstrating the usage. Various eminent twitter members were roped in to speak on its different aspects.
“The camp aimed at spreading awareness and tapping the potential of web users in the city. Madurai as a small town is drawing near to this trend and has big prospect of social networking and online business activities”, said, Mr. R.P. Raghavan, the Event Manager.
The various speeches provided food for the ‘techno savvy’, delving deep into the technical process and functioning of twitter system, how to use it for making business, to make more contacts and generally on how to get familiar with the website. It was quiet interesting to know that a ‘tweet’ is only of 140 characters and one can have hundred thousands of followers.
Students and professors from various city colleges took part in the day’s camp among others like Net bloggers, IT professionals, Web masters and business executives. “The response was overwhelming and more than what we expected as it was on invitation basis. The crowd mostly consisted of students and young professionals” said, Ms. Kolammal Shankar, the Media Coordinator.
Though there was a lot of ‘technical talks’, the final element came with a fun package. Minor games were organized for the participants like ‘tweeting a story’, wherein a short tale was to be tweeted in 8 tweets and ‘First tweets’ on making the ‘maiden tweets’, lending a hands on experience. This ‘twitFUN’ part brought in creativity and added little play to the program. Prizes were distributed to the participants and the event came to a winning wrap up!
