Meet a deadline or achieve a deadline? Whatever you do, make sure you don’t miss it!

Your teacher has just given you the time by when you have to complete a project. Well, she has just given you a deadline . A deadline is a specific date or time when something must be finished. Most projects in schools and offices have deadlines . Sometimes we have to work day in and out to meet a deadline ; sometimes we have to hurry to achieve a deadline . Deadlines are also given for submitting applications.

Have you ever wondered how the word came to be? It apparently stems from the prison camps during the Civil War, where a line was drawn to demarcate the boundaries for prisoners and any prisoner who attempted to cross it, was shot! Now don’t let deadlines give you the jitters. If you fail to meet the deadline for project submission, you could lose points or fail or get into your teacher’s bad books — but you’ll live!
