About four years ago, my sister was born. At that time, may things were brought from my mother’s home. All around my mother’s house are many trees. One of the trees is a jackfruit tree. A ripe jackfruit was also sent home. My favourite fruit is jackfruit.

So while eating it, I asked my mother, “Mom, after eating it can I sow the seed?” My mother said yes. When I went to sow the seed, my grandma stopped me and told me that jackfruit seed should be dried before sowing it. So I kept it in the sun to dry.

The next day, when I got back from school, I took the seed and went to the garden. I looked for something to dig the soil to plant the seed. But I couldn’t find anything. So with a small branch that I found nearby, I tried to dig the soil. After a long struggle I made a small hole. I put the seed into it but it was not fully covered. I was unhappy that I could not cover it.

At that time, my grandma told me that it is not necessary to sow a jackfruit seed. If the seed were scattered it would grow. I did not believe her as I had only seen people sowing seeds and not scattering them. However, I did the same as there was nothing else for me to do. Then I watered the seed. From the pipe nearby I filled my cupped hands with water and poured it on the seed. Of course, half the water that I had collected spilled. Seeing this my grandma gave me a cup. When I was pouring water for the plant, I was praying for the seed to grow into a big tree and give me sweet and ripe jackfruit. After a few days, the seed grew into a plant. Even now, I wonder how that little plant has grown into a big tree. Each day, when I water it, I feel happy and satisfied.
