Innocence revisited

A story filled with humour, Swami and Friends is about friendship and adventure. It revolves around the fictional town of Malgudi.

Swaminathan is an average student who is neither intelligent nor strong. His father is always concerned about his studies.

Swami’s friends are Rajam, the son of the police commissioner, and Mani, the class bully. Their adventures and misfortunes form the rest of the story.

R.K. Narayan’s style of writing is brilliant. Because of the characterisation and description of Malgudi, it feels like a realistic story. Personally, I think the ending of the story is only satisfactory.

The illustrations by R.K. Laxman are eye-catching. I recommend this book to both adults and kids. It is a timeless classic!
