The “Love Green Club” at the Cochin Refineries School, Ambalamugal, Kochi, Kerala works for the harmonious coexistence with nature and conservation of energy.

They have an ongoing project called “Plastend”. The students collect plastic waste from homes every week and send it for recycling.

The members of the Love Green Club maintain a plantain garden, and the bananas are sold at a nominal rate to the students and staff.

This is a healthy and pesticide-free snack and alsogenerates funds for the club.

Creating awareness

As part of the Waste Management project the school maintains a bacterial decomposter pot (vermicompost) by which bio-degradable waste is disposed which is used as manure.

This club was declared the Best Energy Conservation Club by Kerala State in 2008.

“The Love Green Club has been doing commendable work to create awareness both inside and outside the campus about waste disposal. I am proud of them,” said the principal Mrs Mala B Menon.
