Do commas drive you crazy at times?
While writing about the things your grandma liked to collect when she was alive, be careful to put the comma at the right places to avoid confusion.
You write, silver paper, hats, clocks and table cloths in one list; while in another you write silver, paper hats, clocks and table cloths and in yet another list you write, silver, paper, hats, clocks and table cloths! Now which of the above lists were true of your grandma’s hobbies?
Other uses of the comma
Before and after quotations,
“I love ice creams,” he said.
After transition words,
First, Next, Last, Finally, etc.
To separate a city and state, as in,
Chennai, Tamil Nadu
To separate day and year in a date, as in,
March 17, 2014.
Introducing someone,
Meet my friend, Hari.
Before and, but, so, in, in compound sentences,
I was tired, so I slept.
Opening and closing in a letter,
Dear Mrs Sharma,
Love, Milan
