For B.M. Karthik Shenoy, a Std. IX student from Siddapur town in Kodagu district, winning prizes in the Bharatanatyam competitions, right from the district level to national level, has become a habit. Winner of national award a couple of years ago, he added one more feather in his cap by winning the second place in he “Kalapratibhotsava” State level Bharatanatyam competitions organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture held in Bangalore recently.

All State

A resident of Virajpet town, his prize came in the “Kishora Pratibhe” category. Participants came from the entire State. He won the “Natya Varsha” award at the national level competitions held in Bangalore last year.

The other student who won the second prize in flute recital is Ambale Hemant from Madikeri city. He is an acclaimed flautist who has accounted for a national award in the past.

The artiste to make news from Virajpet in the competitions held in the painting category was Yashasvini, daughter of well known artiste, B.R. Satish. She won the third prize, bagging along with it a certificate and cash prize. Yashasvini already has several district and State level awards in her kitty. She is a student of First year PU in the St. Anne's College in Virajpet town.

Artistes from Kodagu have indeed made it good in the cultural scene.
