A visit to Kolkata

September 17, 2012 05:10 pm | Updated 05:10 pm IST

Two years ago, I got an opportunity to visit Kolkata. I had never been there before. After a long journey on the Kolkata Mail, I arrived early in the morning at Howrah junction. The best part of the city I thought was the Maidan and Chowringhee; but I was impressed with Clive Street where the offices of the great merchants and shipping companies are located. Another day I visited the botanical gardens at Sibpur. I also made a visit to the zoological gardens, and the new Victoria Memorial. Travelling by Metro train was a thrilling experience. However, the best way to see Kolkata was to journey on the electric trams.
