Young footballers of the Tiruchi Sports Hostel are in high spirits, having won the boys' under-19 title at the State-level Bharathiar Day Games in Vellore recently. They defeated Neyveli Sports School in the final. The triumph, according to J. David Daniel, football coach at Tiruchi Sports Hostel, was a reward for the players' consistency and hard work.

The Tiruchi Sports Hostel boys, all students of Khajamian Higher Secondary School, qualified for the State-level tournament after winning the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) inter-sports hostel / sports schools football tournament.

Battle of the best

“Fifteen school teams that emerged winners from their respective divisions, besides one team each from sports hostel and sports school respectively, participated in the State-level competition. The matches were closely fought, but our boys played extremely well to clinch the title,” said Mr. Daniel.

He expressed happiness that the Tiruchi Sports Hostel had regained the title after a gap of two years.

“We had a tough opponent in the final. But our boys played with lot of confidence. It was a total team effort,” added Mr. Daniel.

S. Panneerselvam, Regional Senior Manager, Tiruchi-unit of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu; P. Kalaiselvan, District Sports Officer; and M. Gilbert Benjamin, Manager, Tiruchi Sports Hostel, felicitated the team members.
