Bal Bharati Public School, GRH Marg, celebrated its annual day and prize distribution function recently. The renowned Indian classical dancer Sonal Mansingh, was the chief guest. Markus Biechele, the Regional Head of the Language Department, South Asia, Max Mueller Bhavan, was the guest of honour. Dr. Sonal explained the five attributes of a “true student”. Mr. Biechele was full of appreciation for the impressive exhibits, cultural presentations and the “motivating learning atmosphere” at the school. He explained about the school's partnership with the PASCH project. The Principal, L.V. Sehgal said “education should not only equip an individual with skills to earn his bread and butter but also focus on human values and ultimately character formation.” Almost 100 students were awarded prizes in various categories in both scholastic and co- curricular areas. The vote of thanks was delivered by J.C. Ajmani, IFS (Retd) and secretary (Manager) of the school. Mr. Biechele presented a plaque to the principal. The cultural fiesta for the day focused on the country's rich cultural heritage and traditions besides highlighting the importance of leading a righteous life. An enlightening exhibition on the theme, “Learning by Doing: the dynamics of group work” showcasing the activities and achievements of 2010-2011, was put up on the occasion.

Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram, celebrated Earth Day. A special assembly was held in the school where students, especially members of the Environment Club, discussed the importance of preserving the environment and took a pledge to protect the environment. A magazine, ‘ Terravision' was released and Earth Day badges were distributed to students and teachers. A presentation on e-waste was put up by Nokia . The principal D. R. Saini and teachers planted saplings in the garden. Various activities like an exhibition of eco-friendly models, slogan writing, T-shirt painting and dry flower arrangement were organised for the students in the environment week. Students of Hope Hall School, Sector VIII, also visited the school to join in the celebrations.

The investiture ceremony for the senior school cabinet of 2011-2012 was conducted at the Delhi Public School, Rohini, recently. A dance recital ‘Aarambh' was presented by the students. The ceremony concluded with the national anthem by the school choir. The chief guest for the occasion was Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer District, Delhi. In her welcome address, principal Rita Sen, highlighted the responsibilities of the future leaders and advised the students to be effective leaders of tomorrow and encouraged them to perform their duties to the best of their ability. Chhaya Sharma presented badges to the newly appointed cabinet and also encouraged them to inculcate team spirit which is a prerequisite for a good leader. She shared her experience of her service in the police department and emphasised that the virtues of a good leader include dignity, creativity, honour, and selfless service. The vice principal Kiran Kumar, administered the oath of sincerity and dedication. The outgoing head boy and head girl handed over the school flag to the new appointees.

The Bluebells School International organised an event to commemorate the renowned Russian poet, Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin. Pushkin's day is an annual celebration at Bluebells and this year the chief guests were Elena, Head of Education Department Russian Cultural Centre, and Galina, from the Russian language Institute. The principal welcomed the guests and this was followed by poetry recitation. An Indian song about peace and international brotherhood and a skit based on Pushkin's short story “Queen of Spades” were presented.

Vidya Devi Jindal School, Hisar, celebrated Round Square Week. The inaugural ceremony commenced with the celebration of the Earth Day. Dharam Vir, State Election Commissioner, Haryana, was the chief guest. Amardeep Jain, SDM Hisar and Dr. Shiv Singhal from Jindal Hospital, Hisar, were also present. The principal Gunmeet Bindra welcomed the guests. The students presented a choreography signifying the importance of the five elements of Nature. The presentation on ‘Save the Earth' set the right platform for further discussions on the Earth Day. Dharam Vir complimented the school on its social consciousness and vision. He highlighted the need to protect and preserve our mother Earth by being conscious, vigilant, and intelligent citizens. The dignitaries planted saplings. The keynote speakers Professor Devesh Sinha from the Department of Oceanography, University of Delhi and Professor V. Rajamani from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, sensitised the delegates on the need for protecting Nature. Professor D. Sinha enlightened the student delegates on the topic “Earth, Ocean and Climate”. He explained how oceans control the climatic changes. Professor V. Rajamani spoke about the need for living in harmony with Nature. He motivated the students to become aware and develop ‘Earth Sense'. The students interacted with the speakers on important aspects of conservation and protection of the environment. The programme concluded with the Baraaza sessions where the students had further discussions on their role in saving the mother Earth.
