Arshad Muhammed, a Std VII student of Rajagiri Public School, Kalamassery, had been selected as one of the national finalists of the Nat Geo Junior Hunt competition conducted by National Geographic Channel. Students aged between 10 and 14 years from across 14 cities in the country participated in the contest. Initial shortlisting was done at the school level based on a test of their general aptitude and logical reasoning. Out of the 500 children shortlisted from each city, 20 city finalists were selected based on performance of four rigorous rounds. Four out of these 20 city finalists made it to the national final. The other three finalists at the national level were Rohan (Pune), Srionti (Kolkata), and Bhavye (Delhi). Arshad was also the winner of Junior Genius show telecasted by a private television channel. He had also won the Kala Prathibha title at the CBSE State Youth Festival in 2009.

Alfeen Public School, Kanjirappally, held a special programme named “Beyond the Horizon” recently, under the guidance of K.R. Malathi of KRM Consultancy, a Chennai-based International educational consultant. It took a look at the wider world and India’s achievements in the field of space exploration. M.A. Jaleel, vice-chairman of the school, inaugurated the session, a release issued by Principal Lucy Kurian, said.
