Our basic rights

January 10, 2011 09:26 pm | Updated 09:26 pm IST

The World Human Rights Day was observed last month, though without much awareness about some matters. All humans are entitled to the certain rights.

Even after more than six decades have passed since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948, human rights are still not implemented in some forgotten corners of the globe.

Rights of women and children have been the topic of heated debates in the global arena.

According to a recent UN report, five lakh women are subjected to physical assault every year and about 16 crore children are involved in child labour.

It also reveals that 42 million people eke out their living at refugee camps. Thus, the list of deprivation of rights keeps growing.

Let's awaken, be vigilant and take proper action to restore the deprived rights of millions of human beings.

Let's take the pledge to reclaim denied rights of our fellow beings.
