Biting your nails is a bad habit. However, even if you aren’t a nail-biter, you may still have found yourself sitting at the edge of your seat, with your nails between your teeth during the close finish of a football match.

Nerve-wracking

You didn’t bite your nails as a habit there, mind you! You did so because the match was a real nail-biter !

A nail-biter is something (such as a game or movie) that causes people to feel nervous because the ending is not known until the final moment. You can also describe the situation as a nail-biting one .

You can use this word in a couple of ways:

The forthcoming election is going to be a real nail-biter .

or

The forthcoming election is heading for a nail-biting finish .

So, when was the last time you were in a nail-biting situation ?
