Driving any motor vehicle is a responsibility that one must take seriously. Every country requires its drivers to obtain a license, thereby ensuring that the person is capable of handling a motorised vehicle.
It is also mandatory to keep the vehicle in good condition, not just for better performance, but for the safety of all those on the road.
The Motor Vehicle Act (in section 158) makes it clear that any diver of a motor vehicle must furnish his/her license and the registration, insurance and fitness certificate (for transport vehicles) of the vehicle, when asked by an authorised officer.
Recent reports state that the total number of offenses registered against drivers who were not carrying a license (in Tamil Nadu) in the year 2013-14, was 36,713.
This was the second highest among all offenses registered. The highest number of cases were against drivers who did not have the Pollution Under Control certificates; there were 36,928 such cases.
