A narrow lane near Gandhinagar, Kochi, is all decked up as the residents celebrate Durga Pooja. A camera zooms in on Prithviraj who is walking towards the frame. It’s a crucial scene for mimicry artiste-turned-director Nadhirshah’s maiden venture, Amar Akbar Anthony , which has Prithviraj, Jayasurya and Indrajith in the lead.
The director, who is watching the sequence on the monitor, says the heroes are trailing someone in this scene. Says Nadhirshah: “Although it is a humour-based film, it tries to convey several messages for today’s youth. The youngsters of today are often hesitant to help others or get involved in the lives of others. What they don’t realise is that one day, there could be a situation in which they might require another’s assistance. This is the theme of the story.”
Prithviraj plays Amar, who works in a mall, while Jaysurya is Akbar, a lift operator in a hospital. Indrajith dons the role of a pizza delivery boy called Anthony. They live in one of the colonies in Kochi. Their dream is to go to Pattaya, Thailand and have some fun. Namita Pramod is a local cinematic dancer called Jeny.
Prithviraj calls the film a fun one, but with serious undertones in between. “I laughed while listening to the script. The fact that Jayasurya, Indrajith and I are good friends and share an excellent on-screen chemistry is an added bonus for me taking up the script,” he says.
Indrajith, who is waiting for his turn in the caravan, agrees that they are having a blast shooting together. But has Indrajith become finicky with his movies? “I am looking for projects that explore the actor in me and also ones that entertain the audiences. I have completed Double Barrel and one schedule of Adoorum Thoppilum allatha oru Bhasi . I will be joining Vinay Govind’s next and then Rajeev Vijayaraghavan’s forthcoming film,” says Indrajith.
Amar Akbar Anthony is being produced by United Global Media Entertainment in association with Ananya Films.
Sujith Vaassudev is the cinematographer, while Nadirshah and Deepak Dev are the music directors. Stills are by Abhilash Narayanan.
