The Mahabharata provides ample scope for scriptwriters and drama troupes to showcase their skills. It was evident at the recent staging of the Tamil play, ‘Gandhari,' by Karmugil Kalai Mandram in association with the Rasika Ranjana Sabha in Tiruchi recently.
Muthuvelazhagan wrote the script for the play which revolves round Gandhari, the wife of Dhritarashtra and mother of the Kauravas. She masks her eyes shortly after her marriage when she realises that her husband is not only visually-challenged but also incapable of ruling the kingdom. Her decision is taken not out of love for her husband but out of agony and anger, she says.
Over 30 artists played various roles in the play that was produced jointly by Kar. Velazhagan and Tiruchi George. O. Karmugil played the role of Duryodhanan with conviction.
This is the third experiment for writer Muthuvelazhagan. His earlier plays include ‘Padhinaettam Poar' and ‘Janma.'
