The College de France, Paris, established in 1530, has been the hub of Oriental studies. In 1814, a chair for Sanskrit at the College was created by a Royal decree. In 1815, Antoine Leonard Chezy delivered his inaugural lecture. To commemorate this event, a one-day seminar on the French discovery of different branches of Sanskrit and on Indian pandits of the period, will be held at College de France, on June 25.
