“It seems the role was written for me, as I behave almost the same way at times.” Rimi Tomy, all in splits, is talking about her character in Thinkal Muthal Velli Vare , directed by Kannan Thamarakkulam, which released last week.

The singer-cum-anchor plays couch potato Pushpavalli, who is addicted to TV serials. She gets married to Jayadevan Chunkathara (Jayaram), who scripts TV serials. “Her thoughts and mannerisms are of those fictional characters that she has liked over the years. It’s a laugh riot,” says Rimi.

So, is she hooked to serials in real life? “Though I do watch serials, I am not addicted to them, thanks to my hectic work schedules,” she says.

It isn’t Rimi’s initial tryst with Mollywood, though. She had made a brief appearance in the anthology 5 Sundarikal . But the experiences have been totally different. “I was not very comfortable with the role in 5 Sundarikal . It was a serious character, totally unlike me and so viewers couldn’t relate to my role. But Thingal Muthal Velli Vare was an enjoyable experience. The excitement of doing a new job was there for sure. Everyone on the sets including Jayaram told me that playing Pushpavalli wouldn’t be too tough, as my mannerisms suit the character perfectly. I usually do my shows impromptu but facing the film camera was not easy, especially during the initial days. The entire crew was very supportive,” she says.

So, has the acting bug hit her? “It depends on the response to this role. If characters that suit me come my way, I will think about it after consulting my husband.”

She agrees that people tend to take her on-screen image as a real picture of her personality. “So I am expected to smile and joke all the time. That is impossible. I do become tense I may not be in a mood to be pleasant all the time,” she adds before breaking into her signature guffaw. However, she admits that singing is where her heart is. “That is one gift which I am blessed with and I want to continue singing all my life. Even while shooting for the movie, I did shows. My career as a singer is something that I will cherish forever,” smiles Rimi.
