Swara Tarangini’s monthly Sangeeta Sabha presented a melodious veena concert by K.Sasidhar who is working as a veena lecturer in Vijayawada Jawahar Bal Bhavan. Sasidhar is also a good vocalist.
The concert started with Sri Maha Ganapathim of Muthuswami Dikshitar in Gowla concluding it with crisp kalpana swaras. Then followed Thyagaraja’s pancharatna kirtana s adhinchene in Arabhi followed by Telisi ramachintanato ’ in Poornachandrika in the right tempo the kirtana requires. Budhamasrayami , the Navagraha kirtana of Dikshitar in Misra Jhampe talam was played finely by Sasidhar with a brief but bhava rich alapana.
A major item was the sweetly played Nagumomu of Thyagaraja in Abheri. The delineation of Abheri reflected amply the vainik’s aesthetic sense. Splendid alapana of Bhairavi preceded Thyagaraja’s composition Upacharamu chesevaru which emerged as the main item in Sasidhar’s concert. The kirtana concluded with fine swara kalpana. Sasidhar’s plucking technique was neat and soothing to the ear. Sasidhar concluded the concert with Tandanana Bhala an Annamacharya kirtana in Bowli and a sparkling thillana in Hindola composed by Balamurali.
B. Suresh Babu and I.Anjaneya Sastri gave good support to the vainik on mridangam and ghatam respectively.
