Nandini’s pliable and resonant voice helped her display her vidwat at a recital organised by Rajalakshmi Fine Arts, Coimbatore, recently.

Full of vim and vitality, Nandini began with the Thodi varnam ‘Eranaapai’ in two speeds. A brief raga sketch of Abhogi for the kriti ‘Petridalaam Maname’ with swaras was pleasant.

In the raga delineation of Harikhambodi for the kriti, ‘Enduku Needaya,’ this disciple of Parassala Ponnammal displayed her capacity to visualise the raga's vital shades with brevity and clarity. Her step by step development of Shanmukhapriya in the raga alapana carried extensive sancharas underscored by lyrical clarity in articulating the sahitya for the RTP, the pallavi being ‘Krishna Krishna Mahayogin.’

Nandini's exposition of the ragas was met with equally spirited responses from the violinist, Vittal Rangan, whose dulcet notes dripped with melody. His solo versions of the ragas and swara sallies showcased his manodharma.

She closed her recital with a lilting Lalgudi thillana in Tilang.

Shyamakrishnan (mridangam) and Unnikrishnan (ghatam) presented a gamut of skilled beats to the tala segments of the performance.
