HYDERABAD: It is a fact that some of the accompanying violinists are soloists of high calibre but scarcely get opportunities to give solo performances. One of them is Pawan Singh whose name appears mostly as an accompanying artiste. Being the disciple of Dwaram Satyanarayana Rao, a scion of Dwaram family, Pawan Singh’s stakes gain significance. Pawan Singh appeared to have acquired some traits of Dwaram family and the concert he gave for Saptaswara Samskrutika Samstha, last week at Thyagaraya Gana Sabha Mini hall, stands testimony for this observation. Balakrishna Sastry who runs this samastha and a known figure in Carnatic music circles arranged this concert to celebrate Dwaram Narasing Rao’s Jayanthi. This gave opportunity to some invitee musicians to recall the services of Dwaram Venkataswamy Naidu down to his grandson Satyanaryana Rao.

With Karra Srinivas on mridangam and Chandrakanth on ghatam, Pawan Singh began with varnam Evaribodhana in Abhogi ragam Adi talam of Patnam Subramanya Iyer. He presented it in two speeds with meticulous application of mind on sahitya. He covered both mandra and tara sthayis. Vinayaka Ninuvina Brochutaku in Hamsadhwani of Veena Kuppaiyer assumed greater importance in the swarakalpana part that sounded superb on violin presented in two speeds. He opened this number giving brief picture of the raga. Kirtana play was in moderate speed.

Yentanine Varnintu of Thyagaraja in Mukhari, Rupaka talam, he chose to present later, was in mandra sthayi and his play was with vocalist touch. Telisi Ramachintana of Thyagaraja in Poornachandrika, was presented later in moderate speed with ragalapana and swarakalpana.

The sub-main number of the concert was Ninne Nammitinayya in Simhendra madhyamam of Mysore Vasudevachar set in Chapu talam that projected him as one with command on all the technicalities of presentation, especially raga and swara presentations. Pawan played the number adding neraval taking the line Pannagendra Shayana . Raghuvamsa SudhambudhiBrochevarevaruraDasaradha Kumaara Srirama, Sitapate Namo
