Deepa Krishnan, a BE graduate and employed in TCS, Chennai, presented a scintillating veena concert at the Rasika Ranjana Sabha, Tiruchi, recently. The programme was sponsored by the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram.
Deepa Krishnan began her concert with a bright varnam in Nattai ragam composed by Balamuralikrishna. She demonstrated her mastery over the instrument in her rendition of ‘Vathapi Ganapatim’ in Hamsadhwani and ‘Maravari Ramani’ in Nasikabhushani.
Soothing delineation
The raga bhava portrayed in her rendering of the Swati Tirunal’s keerthanai in Mayamalawagowla depicted her creativity. She then moved on to play the fast and exuberant ‘Raghuvamshasudha', an all time favourite. ‘Kadambari Priya’ in Mohanam was the main song for the day. The raga alapana and tanam were soothing to the ears. Niraval was wholesome and her fine flow of swaras depicted her originality.
Her choice of popular tukkada songs such as ‘Chinnanjiru Kiliye,’ ‘Kavadi Chindu’ and ‘Karpagame’ were entertaining. The feather-like touches on the veena by Deepa produced an enchanting melody. She has honed her skills in playing the instrument under the tutelage of Kamala Aswathama. Deepa was accompanied by G. Aravind on the mridangam.
