Leading Carnatic vocalist Aruna Sairam will be the recipient of this year's Indira Sivasailam Endowment Fund award.
She will be given the award at a function to be held at the Music Academy on October 17, 2012.
Indira Sivasailam Endowment Fund was established in 2010 by noted industrialist Mallika Srinivasan in memory of her mother Indira Sivasailam.
The fund was set up in association with The Music Academy.
Smt. Aruna Sairam has been chosen unanimously for this award, says a release.
Smt. Aruna Sairam began her classical training under her mother Smt. Rajalakshmi Sethuraman. Smt. Aruna Sairam belongs to Veenai Dhanammal school of Carnatic music. She is a disciple of the legendary T. Brinda. Under the guidance of A.S. Mani, disciple of the legendary Tiger Varadachariar, Smt. Aruna Sairam developed an enduring command over swara kalpanas . Veena Vidwan Shri. K.S. Narayanaswamy and Shri. T.R. Subramaniam helped her gain mastery over the ragas with an insightful understanding of the Pallavis, says the release.
