Resource Group for Education and Advocacy for Community Health (REACH) will organise a music concert titled ‘Light of Hope’ by popular Carnatic vocalist and playback singer Unnikrishnan on October 9 (7 pm) at the Mandapam, Hotel Sheraton Chola, Cathedral Road.
The concert will raise funds for those with tuberculosis — to provide them with nutritional supplements and treatment support.
REACH, Chennai, was formed 10 years ago to carry out health advocacy through direct contact in the area of individual health care and stimulate group awareness through community mobilisation.
WHO has declared tuberculosis as a global emergency. In India, every year, 1.8 million persons develop TB, of these around 800,000 are infectious; and nearly 1,000 die of it everyday. Despite the efforts of the Government, TB remains the biggest public health threat facing the country. Through its team of social workers, REACH identifies, counsels and offers treatment support to over 600 needy patients each year in both urban and suburban areas of Chennai.
Says Unnikrishnan, “Music is a wonderful medium to bring people together for a cause. I feel really good about lending support to REACH’s efforts at saving lives and putting a smile on the faces of the less fortunate. It is the greatest satisfaction I can derive as an artiste. I thank REACH for this opportunity.”
Donor passes for the concert are available at REACH, 9/5, State Bank Street, off Anna Salai. Or, call 28610332/ 65211047.
