They are the latest duo to arrive – Anahita and Apoorva Ravindran. They sing like seasoned artists. Innate aptitude, sound training and sharp intellectual acumen alone can create such prodigiously gifted artists.
They took up Khamas as the main raga. Anahita offered a detailed and sweet alapana, rich in bhava. On the violin, another young artist, Mysore Sangeetha offered an authentic and aesthetic elucidation. Mysore Vasudevachar’s ‘Brochevarevarura’ was charmingly rendered. The niraval and swarams were at ‘Aturamuga’ in the charanam – two matras after samam. The thani offered by Sriram Natarajan (mridangam) and Balaji Chandran (ghatam) was awesome.
The sisters commenced their concert with an Arabhi composition of Oothukkadu, ‘Thedi Arula Vandhan’ on Sri Parthasarathy of Thiruvallikkeni. It is a lilting piece. That was followed by ‘Neelayathakshi’ (Paras) of Syama Sastri.
Apoorva offered an expansive and attractive Kalyani alapana that preceded ‘Amma Ravamma’ (Khanda Chapu) of Tyagaraja. In this, the ghatam beats were especially charming. ‘Brihannayaki’ (Andhali) was also neatly rendered. Sweet voice, perfect unison, awareness of raga bhava and total control of laya marked their concert.
