Veteran vocalist, N.C. Soundaravalli, has for decades enthralled lovers of Carnatic music with her highly disciplined and traditional music. Her performance the other evening stood out for its musical values rather than vocal aesthetics, age being the main factor. Soundaravalli presented a well-delineated Lathangi followed by ‘Venkataramana' of Sivan and later Tyagaraja's ‘Kaddanuvaariki' in Thodi. ‘Annapoorani' (Sama) was wedged in-between. Pakkala Ramadas (violin), Thanjavur Kumar (ghatam) and Adambakkam Sankar (ghatam) gave commendable support.
