Young, pretty Pranathi Ramadorai’s performance for Rasika Ranjani Sabha was marked by neat footwork and precise theermanams.

Attired in an attractive costume, she began with an invocation to Lord Ganesha, and chose ‘Pirai soodum Peruman’ in Hamsadhwani, a composition by Dr. Balamuralikrishna.

One of the Pancharatna Kritis of Tyagaraja in Arabhi ‘Sadinchane’ was taken up in place of varnam.

One came across time worn sancharis depicting child Krishna’s pranks and Lord Krishna’s Viswaroopam for Arjuna in the many charanams; but Pranathi did reasonably well with expressions in this as well as the later Padam ‘Neemata’ in Poorvikalyani.

As she grows older, and with experience, she might fare even better in abhinaya.

It is all very well to make effective use of the space, but it was a little overdone with her zigzagging around the stage too often.

The final piece was the Tillana in Kamas composed by Vazhuvoor Ramiah Pillai.

The nattuvangam was conducted by Pranathi’s guru Radha; and good support came from Bhagyalakshmi Sikamani on vocal, Sikamani on violin, Dhananjayan on the mridangam and Muthukumar on flute.
