Odissi lovers of the city of Bengaluru will get a chance to savour the best of Odissi delights on August 29, 2010 at Seva Sadan, Malleswaram. City based Odissi institution, Nrityantar, is presenting its festival of Odissi dance ‘Naman’. ‘Naman’ literally meaning salutation, is a tribute to the Guru , the visible embodiment of God. No one fits the occasion better than Padmashree Guru Gangadhar Pradhan, the most renowned and respected Odissi guru of present times. He is expected to grace the event with his presence.

Naman is a small but humble attempt to showcase different styles and schools of Odissi. Nrityantar wishes to permanently add the festival to the city’s cultural calendar.

Naman 2010 features talented young artistes, Pankaj Kumar Pradhan and Amulya Balabantaray from Bhubaneswar with seasoned performers like Sangeeta Dash from Pondicherry and Sharmila Mukherjee from Bengaluru. The popular Odissi duo from Bengaluru, Uday and Soumya Shetty will also perform. The evening will witness delightful performances, the beauty, grace, lyricism and richness of this beautiful dance form. Apart from performances, this festival will feature an exhibition of rare photographs demonstrating the history of Odissi.

The programme will be presided over by Ashish Mohan Khokar, reputed art historian, scholar and critic in the gracious presence of senior gurus, Dr. Maya Rao, Guru B. Bhanumathi, Guru Lalitha Srinivasan, Guru Veena Murthy Vijay, Guru Vyjanthi Kashi and many others.
