Young artistes impressed with their talent at a classical music concert in the premises of BVK Junior College, Visakhapatnam. The very congenial ambiance there surely helps these artistes in making for presentation of their art. It is not the professional touch or proficiency in presentation of the piece taken up that matters but their ability to articulate what was taught that counts in such session and on that count it was quite impressive. It is heartening to see presence of large audience that surely encourages these flowering artistes to ponder over pursuing their passion for music further.

The prime slot in the two-hour session went to M. Srilatha who sang the chosen pieces with gusto. A disciple of noted vocalist Manda Sudharani, she looked likely to go places provided she pursues the music as strenuously as her illustrious Guru did in her formative years. Sudharani, a hard taskmaster in instruction, inculcates the spirit of learning in detail and spares no effort on this count. And it remained evident all through this session as Srilatha essayed well in her presentation.

Having warmed it up with a varnam, she chose Siddivinayakam of Muttuswamy Dikshitar in the raga Chamaram and made a good effort in swarakalpana. Her choice for elaboration as the mainstay was raga Kambhoji. The krithi for this was Kailasanadhena samrakshithoham of Diekshitar. She did raga aalapana quite enthusiastically. She has a good voice but her skill to sustain the notes in its transition in flow needs rigorous practice, nevertheless the overall attempt was reflective of the quality training imparted to her. She appended the piece with neat swarakalpana. Before the main piece, she rendered Vaadera Daivamu of Thyagaraj in raga Panthuvarali with a brief aalapana and swarakalpana. Nanugannathalli in Sindhubhairavi, Gurulekaetuvanti, Devi ramemamava in Vasantha were other notables. She rounded it off with a tillana of MBK in Kuntalavarali.

Chaganti Ramyakironmayi on violin and Varanasi Jayadeep Sarma on mridangam lent good support. Earlier, disciples of Mallapragada Jogulamba, Addanki Murali, Sai Sarojini, Venkata Sai Meghana and Pudipeddi Sandhyasri sang a few kritis. Veena artiste Nishtala Krishnaveni coordinated the event.
