Indian Cartoon Gallery has on display sketches of internationally-acclaimed cartoonist Vijay Narain Seth. His collection of cartoons portrays “Third World issues and development of technology”.
The cartoons are a commentary on life in 21st century India. He has addressed issues ranging from education and technology to politics and cricket and the impact it has had on the common man's life. The sketches are sure to bring a smile to viewers' faces for they will be able to relate almost immediately to them.
A man flying a laptop instead of a kite, a boy studying for his exams with the end of his suspenders nailed to the wall to prevent himself from falling asleep, children learning how to build a sand castle from television, exasperated viewers watching a news anchor breathlessly screaming, “Murder! Kidnapped! Hijacked! And other such humorous cartoons are on display.
A graduate from the J.J. School of Fine Arts, Seth is the third Indian cartoonist whose works are in the permanent collection of the International Cartoon Museum Karikatatur and Cartoon Museum Basel, Switzerland.
Fondly known as Vins, Seth has had his cartoons displayed in Hungary, Belgium, France, Portugal and Israel. The themes in his cartoons include social issues such as illiteracy, pollution and deforestation and topics such as science and business.
Seth has been inspired by the father of modern cartooning Andre Francois. His cartoons have been published in national and international publications such as the Reader's Digest , Treffpunki, Nebelspalter and Epd-Entwicklungspolitik . Seth is presently the president of the Indian chapter of the Federation of European Cartoonists Organisation.
His sketches will be on view till August 28 at Indian Cartoon Gallery, number 1 Midford House, Midford Gardens, off M.G. Road, Bangalore-560001. Call: 41758540.
