Kandula Kuchipudi Natyalayam presented an impressive show of three dance forms- Kuchipudi, Odissi and Mohiniyattam.

Kuchipudi dance exponent Ravi. G who runs Kuchipudi dance school ‘Kandula Kuchipudi Natyalayam’, steered a show featuring three styles of dance — Kuchipudi, Odissi and Mohiniyattam at Shilparamam last Sunday. The dancers featured in the show were Odissi exponent Debashis Patnaik, Mohiniyattam dancer Swarnadeepa with Ravi performing the Kuchipudi. All the three dancers gave a taste of the three forms of dances in the beginning as an introduction.

An invocation dance, Jayamu Jayamu was followed by Mohiniyattam performance by Swarnadeepa who gave a recital of Siva Sthuthi, the text which was written in ‘Manipravalam’ a mix of Sanskrit and Malayalam.

Debashish Patnaik presented ‘Saraswathi Mangalacharanam’, based on popular slokam ‘Yakundendu’. It was presented well by the artiste who had clubbed the dance with drama.

The next dance was that of Ravi who started with the ‘Pravesa Daruvu’ of Bhamakalapam Bhamane Satya Bhamane. He’s known to play female roles like the traditional Kuchipudi male artistes. It was felt that Ravi should stick to the rule book regarding decorating his plait, which forms the main aspect of Bhamakalapam. But his performance otherwise was neat and apt.
