A wide range of online and digital resources are now available for the purpose

Technology changes at a fast pace and so does the world. And the key to success for a teacher lies in the ability to keep track of technological changes and try to make best use of technology for better and efficient teaching, says Naomi Moir, Senior Teacher Trainer at Oxford University Press. Unlike in the past, a wide range of online and digital resources are now available for teachers.

The onus is on the teachers to learn new technologies and put them to use in the better interest of students. Teachers here are keen to adopt changes. There is a lot of enthusiasm in them to learn new things and their teaching standards are very high and on par with international standards. They are much ahead of their counterparts in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. “Having said this, teachers, particularly those conducting classes for primary and middle schools, have to update their skills regularly.”

Moir says this is possible only when teachers are aware of the latest resources that are available to them and this not only helps teachers but students as well. If a teacher assigns homework online and makes students to reply online, it works wonders for both. While it can help teachers to reduce the laborious work of checking every student's notebooks, it would be innovative and interesting for students to complete their homework online.

Depending on the geography and availability of resources, different teachers adopt different teaching methodologies. But all online and digital resources are just tools that can make learning more interesting for students but they can never replace a teacher, she concludes.
