Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced that the practice of making schoolchildren stand on either side of the road to welcome VIPs and VVIPs during their visits will be stopped forthwith.

Addressing a public meeting at the mini stadium here on Thursday, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao said subjecting schoolchildren to hardship during VIP visits was unacceptable. Accordingly, the government would immediately issue orders banning the practice, he said. “I saw scores of schoolchildren lining up the streets braving scorching sun to welcome me. It affected me deeply,” he said. Meanwhile, many school managements in the town brought the children in uniform on to the road a couple of hours before the arrival of the Chief Minister to accord him a rousing reception.
