Learn mathematics and science through activities —— this is the new mantra of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to help students grasp the subjects better.
With most of the students failing in mathematics, the CBSE has asked the affiliated schools to introduce novel activity-based teaching-learning process in classrooms.
The CBSE has developed activity books in science and mathematics. It has asked all the heads of the affiliated institutions to follow such books and make the teaching more fun and interesting.
The activity book in mathematics is based on the National Curriculum Framework and the concepts given in the NCERT books for Classes III to VIII. These activities will help the students understand the basic mathematical concepts better and remove the fear of the subject from their minds of children, the CBSE said.
The activity book in science for Class VIII contains different activities based on the concepts given in the NCERT textbook which will help the students understand the concepts easily. This book is in sequel to the activity books in science for Classes VI and VII developed by the CBSE earlier.
The step assumes significance as HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has announced that a core curriculum will be developed within two months on the subjects of science and mathematics.
Different boards may follow such curriculum.
